  Petersen is a quality assured UK manufacturer of stainless steel structural tie bar assemblies. Our manufacturing facility and experienced support team have an established track record of quality, cost and delivery on projects of all sizes.
All tension bar systems are designed in accordance with BS5950-1:2000, EN 1993-1-11:2006 and EN 1993-1-8:2005.

All fittings are machined from solid material - no welds or castings.

System B1

 
SBS-450 Stainless Steel Architectural Tie Bar assembly with a left-hand/right-hand threaded bar and adjuster forks fitted at each end. 
After installation the Tension Bar can be rotated to set the correct length.  The Tension Bar system is locked using tapered lock cover nuts.
316 Tension Bars are manufactured from specially drawn bar-stock with rolled threads.  Tension Bar systems are available in up to 6m single lengths, couplers can be used to span further.
System B2  
Nitronic 50 drawn rod has been used on a number of notable structures world-wide over the past 20 years having been originally developed for use on high-performance racing yachts. Owing to its high strength (almost double that of 316 grade stainless steel) it lets architects create structures with very fine tension members to maximise light and space and minimise obstruction. Self weight is roughly 50% that of a traditional 316 tie bar system.

Another benefit over 316 bars is that it can be tension members can be supplied in single lengths of up to 100m which are packed as coils for easy shipping.

 

Tension Bars, also known as Tension Rods, Tie Bars and Tie Rods, are manufactured in the UK and the USA by Petersen.

Tension Bar systems consist of a threaded stainless steel Tie Bar terminated in an SBS-450 fork clevis adjuster at each end.

The SBS-450 fork clevis ends and double head clevis pins are designed in accordance with BS5950-1:2000, EN 1993-1-11:2006 and EN 1993-1-8:2005 and are machined - not cast - from a high-strength duplex stainless steel. 

The SBS-450 fork clevis ends allow a generous amount of adjustment and the Tension Bar / Tie Bar System is normally supplied with one left hand and one right hand threaded end.  After installation the Tension Bar can be rotated to set the correct length.  The Tension Bar system is locked using tapered lock cover nuts.

System B3 Stainless Steel Structural Tension Bars can be supplied without fork ends applications where they can be bolted through steelwork.

316 Tension Bars are manufactured from specially drawn bar-stock with rolled threads.  Tension Bar systems are available in up to 6m single lengths, couplers can be used to span further.

Tension Bars in Swimming pool roof and ceiling trusses, window braces, ducting, lighting and slide hangers operate in a highly corrosive environment. We manufacture Super Duplex Tension Bar Systems from grades 32760 and 32550 Ferrinox for use in these applications.

Nitronic 50 is a high-tensile stainless steel permitting much greater loads for a given cross-section.  Use of this grade reduces visual impact and most importantly self-weight.  Nitronic 50 Tension Bars are available in single lengths up to 100m and can be coiled for easy shipping.  The Tension Member is cold-headed and seats in a threaded 'nose'.  The nose screws in to the SBS-450 fork clevis end allowing adjustment.
